Work Method of Statement

General outline of a Work Method Statement for rebar coupling:

The threading process for rebar at a construction site, particularly for use with mechanical couplers, involves several key steps. Below is a general methodology for threading rebar at the site:

The set of machine that is used for threading of the Re-Bar are placed to close proximity ofthe bar cutting & bending contractor for easy movement ofthe cutto length ofthe Re-Bar to be brought near to the set of machine used for threading of bars. (Bringing the re-bar next to our machine is in your scope)

The first operation is to saw cutthe ends ofthe bar to 90* straight cut, this means proper care will be taken by our machine operator to cut the bar at a place which is straight & does not have any bend.

After cutting the Re-Bar a visual inspection of the Re-Bar is done by the site in charge to find outifthe Re-Bar is of proper diameter or not, the bar is also checked for deformity such as square, oblong or egg shaped. We also check for any cracks along the horizontal ribs or holes or fracture on the cross section of the sawed bar. If any such factor comes to our light , we inform the site engineer from the clients side before proceeding further.

The threaded Re-Bar is checked for quality of threads & we use GO-NO-GO gauge to determine the compatibility of threaded bar to the coupler. The threaded re-bar ( both sides ) we fix the coupler on to one side ( if requested) & the other side is capped with a plastic cap for protecting the thread from damages whiletransporting.

The threaded Re-Bar will be stacked according to the size next to our threading machine. The threaded Re-Bar is to be taken away by your labour for installation, as the same doesnotfallunder our scope nor the fixing of the bar on to the column.

The 90o saw cut bars are placed on to aM.S.C-CHANNEL FABRICATED STANDof 5mts.in length x 4mts in width for re-bar length up to 8 mts.(to be provided by you ) not in our scope.

Once the bar kept on the stand, the rod is inserted to the threading machine and the ribs are removed for threading process on the rod.

  • ➢ Run the couple to the end of the thread on the fixed bar.
  • ➢ Position and rotate the continuation bar in the coupler.
  • ➢ Tighten the joint using a wrench on the continuation bar.
  • ➢ No torque wrenching required.

Standard Splices

Standard SM Infratech splices are accomplished by use of a standard female coupler matching the thread size made on the bars.

Rebar Thread Drawings

Generic Features:
  • ➢ No reduction of the ductility of the reinforcing bar.
  • ➢ Tensile failure guaranteed to occur away from the joint.
  • ➢ No reduction of the nominal cross sectional area of the parent bar.
  • ➢ Easy visually traceably.
  • ➢ Raw-Material test report.
  • ➢ On site service.

Position Splice

The SM Infratech splicing creates a full-strength connection of grade 550 reinforcing bars with a minimum guaranteed tensile strength of both 125% of the nominal yield strength of the bar and 100% of the nominal tensile strength of thebar. It does so by not reducing the cross-section area of the bar.
